how long to let your dog chew

supervised sessions keep chewing safe and effective. start shorter — every dog is different.

gentle chewer
30 – 45 min
moderate chewer
15 – 30 min
power chewer
10 – 15 min
always supervise the first few sessions to understand your dog's chewing style.
once per day is the ideal rhythm. consistency compounds over time.
hold the chew for your dog or use a chew holder if your dog begins gulping or chewing too aggressively. dogs have a natural instinct to gnaw on chews, so after holding for a chew session or two they will get the hang of it.
why the chew ritual matters

the navan protocol works through consistency and mechanics — not synthetic additives.

🦷
dental health
mechanical scraping reduces tartar and plaque naturally through chewing action.
🧠
enrichment
focused chewing engages the mind. bored dogs are destructive dogs.
😌
calming
chewing releases serotonin and helps dogs self-soothe during stressful moments.
💪
jaw strength
regular chewing exercises jaw muscles and keeps gums stimulated and healthy.

these chews complement — never replace — regular veterinary checkups. for dogs with existing dental issues, consult your vet first.

expected odor & natural variation

these are real, single-ingredient chews. variation is a sign of quality, not a defect.

odor intensity you may notice

mild to moderate — normal and expected

our duck necks are the chews with the strongest smell, but this is completely normal for the product.

color variation — shades range from light tan to deep brown. all are natural.
earthy or gamey smell — totally normal. let it air for 10 minutes if needed.
surface texture — some may be rougher or smoother. no impact on quality or safety.
discard if it smells sour, rotten, or has visible mold. that is not normal. if this happens, reach out to us at wecare@navanpet.com — we will make it right with a replacement, refund, or coupon.
how to store after opening

our products have a 2-year shelf life — keep it fresh between sessions to get the most out of every chew.

1
seal it up — use the original packaging, a zip-lock bag, or airtight container after each session.
2
cool, dry spot — store at room temperature away from heat and direct sunlight. no refrigeration needed short-term.
3
refrigerate for longer storage — if the chew will sit for more than a week, pop it in the fridge to extend freshness even further.
4
freeze to preserve even longer — but your dog will love these so much there is no way you will want it to last longer than 2 years. freezing also works great for slow feeders — a frozen chew naturally extends the session.
when to remove the chew

safety signals every owner should know.

🛑
stop immediately if your dog is gagging, choking, or struggling to breathe.
🛑
remove at once if the chew breaks into sharp pieces or splinters.
🛑
take it away when the chew becomes small enough to swallow whole — choking hazard.
⚠️
hold the chew for your dog or use a chew holder if your dog begins gulping large chunks rather than chewing slowly. dogs have a natural instinct to gnaw — after a session or two of holding, they will get the hang of it.
⚠️
monitor first-time chewers and puppies for the full duration of the first session.
totally normal — some residue on the floor, a wet paw, and a very happy, calm dog afterward.
